Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

On day one you will be picked up by our company guide from the Hotel or Kigali international airport for transfer to Nyungwe forest national park. You will first have Kigali city tour where you will visit historical places like Nyanza Palace, Butare Museam, and Murambi genocide museum and after you will have lunch from any hotel or restaurant.

Proceed with the journey to Nyungwe with beautiful view of rolling hills, mountains and evergreen vegetation. Upon arrival you will check-in at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Forest Lodge/Nyungwe Top View Lodge/Gisakura Guest House.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy walk.

After morning breakfast report to the park’s headquarters for briefing on rules and regulation of chimpanzee trekking. You will grouped in a group of 6 people per chimpanzee community with well-armed game ranger who lead the group into Kyamudongo Forest where you will track the chimps in the forest with view of other primates in the forest. After finding the chimpanzees, you will be allowed one hour with them and after return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch go for canopy walk in the forest in search of primates and view of the beautiful forest. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at previous lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park.

Leave the lodge after morning breakfast for drive to Volcanoes national park passing through beautiful rolling hills, landscapes, evergreen vegetation and viewing local people doing their daily activities. You will have en-route stopover for lunch from any local restaurant as a way of giving back to community. Proceed to the park where you will check-in at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Muhabura hotel (Budget)/La Palme hotel (Deluxe)/Mountain gorilla view lodge (Luxury.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking and visit Iby’wachu cultural center

 Take African cup of coffee very early in the morning and carry your hiking equipment, enough drinking water and packed sacks, then your guide will drive you to park’s headquarters for briefing on rules and regulations of gorillas trekking.  Park warden will pair you in a group of 8 tourists per gorilla family and you will be driven to the starting point of the trek. The park warden will lead the group into the forest to find the remaining endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habituates. The trek takes half an hour to 8 hour depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they built their previous nest.  You will spend only one hour with these gentle giants taking photos, asking park warden questions and seeing them feeding, breast feeding and playing. Return to the starting point where you will meet your guide waiting for you to transfer you back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will head for Iby’wachu cultural center visit where you will enjoy the local performance, traditional wedding, storytelling and other local activities done in the community.

Day 5: Golden Monkey tracking and departure

Take early morning breakfast and report to the park’s headquarters for briefing before ascending the forest in search of golden monkey. The park warden will lead the group and upon finding the golden monkey, you watch them playing from branch to branch, see them searching for food and young ones breast feeding. Return to the lodge and check-out of the lodge with packed lunch and drive to Kigali city. Drop off at the hotel or Kigali international airport to catch up with your flight back home.
